WON’s White Seabass championship slated for May 15-16
TWO HARBORS, Catalina Island – The White seabass season will slowly be building momentum, and last year was one of the finest, both at the islands as well as on the coast. This year is shaping up to be even better, and the annual WON/Yamaha Catalina Island White Seabass Championship slated for the third weekend in May at Two Harbors, May 15-16, has become the highlight of the local seabass season.
Directing this year’s event is WON Editor Pat McDonell, who also directs the successful Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament held in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
A FRIDAY BBQ LUNCH is part of the package for the event that runs from Friday to Saturday afternoon.
Cost is $85 per person. There will also be the three optional jackpots at $100, $200 and $300 for each species, halibut, seabass and yellowtail. First place will be $5,000 in cash and prizes, second is $2,000 and prices, third place is $1,000 and fourth and fifth will be awarded $400 and $300, respectively.
The entry fee $85 includes event visors and t-shirts, and a barbecue lunch on Friday before the captains meeting commences. The Costa/Avet Casting Contest will again be back by popular demand, and is another fun part of the festivities scheduled for the beach. Mooring are also available, with a convenient shore boat to get ashore for all the festivities, food and prize drawings at this great event. It is a fantastic venue, and this tournament is a great way for you and your fishing buddies to have a great weekend fishing trip close to home.
Squid light boats from San Pedro Bait Company (owned by Paul Strasser and Mark Pisano of the long range sportfisher Independence and 22nd Street Landing), will be available to sell live bait ( if available) outside Two Harbors.
